The Department has B.Tech and M.Tech program in Civil Engineering. There are 19 high end teaching and research laboratories in the department. The Department also hosts various seminars and training program for learning various designing software. The greatest asset of the Civil Department is its highly educated and motivated faculty. Our aim is to deliver the best to our students, to the society and the nation.

Er. Sandeep Pannu

It gives me immense pleasure to introduce you to the Department of Civil Engineering in MRIEM. The department was established in the year 2008 to cater the ever increasing demand of Civil Engineers in industry and academia. It has been our endeavour, right from the beginning, to make our department a preferred destination for students who want to get to the top of this field. We aspire to mould our students into globally competent and well chiseled Civil Engineers who can meet the challenges of technological advancement. The students are groomed to be thorough professionals with blend of up-to-date technical knowledge and field experience. All efforts are also being made to inculcate social values and professional ethics in our students to face the current as well as future global standards.

Carrier Prospects

Civil engineering (CE) offers a wide range of career prospects in various sectors due to its diverse applications and critical role in infrastructure development. Here are some career avenues for civil engineers:

1. Construction Industry: Civil engineers are in high demand in the construction sector. They oversee the planning, design, and construction of buildings, roads, bridges, dams, and other infrastructure projects. They work with architects, contractors, and other professionals to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and within budget.

2. Infrastructure Development: Civil engineers play a crucial role in developing and maintaining essential infrastructure, including transportation systems, water supply networks, and sewage treatment plants. They design and implement projects to improve public safety, mobility, and environmental sustainability.

3. Environmental Engineering: With growing concerns about environmental sustainability, there is an increasing demand for civil engineers specialising in environmental engineering. They work on projects related to pollution control, waste management, and sustainable development, helping to protect natural resources and minimize environmental impact.

4. Urban Planning and Development: Civil engineers contribute to urban planning and development by designing and implementing infrastructure projects to support growing populations in cities and urban areas. They work on projects such as land use planning, transportation systems, and urban renewal initiatives.

5. Government Agencies: Many civil engineers find employment in government agencies at the local, state, or federal level. They work in departments responsible for public works, transportation, water resources, and environmental protection, where they oversee infrastructure projects, enforce regulations, and ensure compliance with safety standards.

6. Consulting Firms: Civil engineers often work for consulting firms that provide engineering services to government agencies, private companies, and nonprofit organisations. They may specialise in areas such as structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, or transportation engineering, providing expertise and technical support on a wide range of projects.

7. Research and Academia: Some civil engineers pursue careers in research and academia, working at universities, research institutions, or government laboratories. They conduct research, publish findings, and teach courses in areas such as civil engineering, materials science, and structural mechanics.

Overall, civil engineering offers diverse career opportunities with the potential for professional growth and impact in addressing societal challenges related to infrastructure, sustainability, and urbanization.
